Hello there, I’m The Honking Goose (she/they) and I may be the blindest goose on the internet (HONK)! I am a legally blind writer, researcher, and lifelong tech nerd based in Eastern North Carolina. I write about my interests in technology, accessibility, and my lived experience of navigating the world with low vision. I also write about psychology, policy, and the places where all of these things run into each other in ways nobody planned for.
Preferred Technology
When it comes to accessibility sofftware, my main tool is a screen reader! JAWS by Vispero (Freedom Scientific) on my Windows computers; and I use VoiceOver on my Apple devices. This means I don’t just write about accessibility in theory. I write about it from inside lived experience.
Education
I began my academic journey at Wake Technical Community College, where I earned an Associate of Applied Science in Web Development in August 2020. I continued my studies remotely at Southern New Hampshire University, taking on an interdisciplinary approach and earning a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies. Today, I am working toward a Master of Science in Psychology, specializing in industrial and organizational psychology, at Purdue University Global.
I try to bring that range into everything I write. The technical background keeps me honest with the details. The psychology training keeps me asking why things work the way they do, and whether they should.
