About

Hello there, I’m The Honking Goose (she/they) and I may be the blindest goose on the internet (HONK)! I am a legally blind writer, researcher, and lifelong tech nerd based in Eastern North Carolina.

This blog is where I think out loud. I write about technology, accessibility, and the lived experience of navigating the world with low vision. I also write about psychology, policy, and the places where all of these things run into each other in ways nobody planned for.

What I write about

My current work centers on industrial and organizational psychology, with a particular interest in psychometrics, assessment, and measurement. I am drawn to the parts of I/O that hold up under scrutiny: reliability, validity, test utility, and the careful translation of constructs into evidence that organizations can actually use. Strong measurement is the foundation of every defensible decision an organization makes about its people, and I want to be part of the work that keeps that foundation honest.

Alongside that, I am building expertise in organizational behavior, leadership, lifespan and adult development, and the ethical questions that sit at the heart of applied psychology. I think carefully about how findings move from the page to the workplace, and I try to bring that same care to the blog.

The accessibility writing comes from the same place. I notice structure. I look for the points where intent and execution come apart. Low vision sharpens that habit because the gaps are not theoretical when you are the one falling into them.

Education

I began my academic journey at Wake Technical Community College, where I earned an Associate of Applied Science in Web Development in August 2020. I continued my studies remotely at Southern New Hampshire University, taking an interdisciplinary approach and earning a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies. Today, I am working toward a Master of Science in Psychology at Purdue University Global, specializing in industrial and organizational psychology. I am also actively exploring fully online doctoral programs in I/O Psychology, Organizational Leadership, and Human Factors.

I try to bring that range into everything I write. The technical background keeps me honest with the details. The psychology training keeps me asking why things work the way they do, and whether they should.
