When using an HP laptop protected by HP Wolf Security, you may encounter issues with Freedom Scientific products, notably Fusion, JAWS, and ZoomText, due to conflicts with its default security policies. This blog post explains how to configure HP Wolf Security to allow Freedom Scientific software products to function properly. These products require a high level of access to your system because of the nature of the services they provide, which can trigger cybersecurity software.
Before addressing this issue, make sure to complete your Windows setup, install all available updates, and set up HP Wolf Security, including the configuration of your HP Portal Account to manage your laptop, before proceeding with this blog post.
You will need to do the following:
- Login to the HP Wolf Security Portal at https://portal.hpwolf.com/
- Click Policy on the left sidebar.
- Click SureSense
- Scroll down to the “File and directory path exclusions list” and add directories related to Freedom Science software.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click “Save!”
You will need to add the following directories to the exemptions list.
- C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Freedom Scientific
- %appdata%\Freedom Scientific\
- C:\FSSetup\
- %localappdata%\Temp\FS_Install\
I recommend that you completely uninstall all Freedom Scientific products if you installed them before making this configuration change. You may need to reactivate your product licenses depending on your system configuration. If after following these steps you still have issues you should reach to Freedom Scientific support at https://support.freedomscientific.com/forms/techsupport as that would extend beyond the scope o this blog post.
If this blog post helped you, I ask that you consider supporting organizations in your area that serve the blind and low-vision community with your financial resources or by volunteering or otherwise engaging with the community.
